I know it’s a strange question but do you keep the change? We have a very large glass container where we place all our spare change. It is amazing how that accumulates!
Every evening my husband will empty out his pockets and place the change in the jar and I will empty out my change purse at least once a week. We have been doing this ritual for many years and at the end of the year together as a family we will roll the change. Yes, we use the carton roll containers and will sift through the coins and place them in the appropriate containers.
Our family makes this a fun event, with music and story telling. We also take advantage of the opportunity and teach them all about money. The younger ones will learn the different values of the coins, the older ones will discuss the individuals on each coin as well as counting. We also practice the multiplication tables with the coins. By the end of the evening we will have accomplished rolling the entire container. We then decide what we will spend the money on and it is usually something for the entire family.
One year we collected over $500 in coins and spent the weekend in Orlando visiting the amusement parks. It’s amazing how much money we can collect in coins. So, the question is ‘do you save your pennies’? Every little bit helps and it adds up very quickly.
Make it a family event and start collecting all your loose change, roll them together and you will be surprised how much you can save.
