Saving During the Recession

Let’s face it…times are hard and may just get much more difficult. You may not have lost your job, but @DrMommy, Dr. Mommy, Dr. Mommy Online, money management, recession tips, saving money, saving money during the recession, saving money tips you are still feeling the crunch because of the prices climbing, everywhere you look. This may be the perfect time to begin saving if you haven’t begun already. People may think that it is near impossible to save money during these hard times but don’t be fooled there are still ways to save.

In order to save money you need discipline. Yes, you read it correctly discipline, which is something that we are not used to practicing. If you are committed you can accomplish anything, by simply squeezing the wallet and still have enough to put into your savings. Here are some unique ways to save money you may have never thought of.

  • Time to unplug – one of the biggest expenditures occurs with our use of electricity. Many don’t realize that you are actually paying more for the use of electricity, not because of the cost but because of the usage of watts. When you forget to unplug an appliance or walk out of a room and leave the lights on you are using extra wattage. A way to save money on your electric bill is by of course turning off the lights or unplugging appliances not being used, if you need to run the dishwasher be sure it is fully loaded, and schedule your ironing and washing of clothes to perhaps one day a week instead of daily. It is something that will take time to get used to but you will be able to save money and be able to help lessen the problems on energy.
  • No Java – I know what you’re thinking — You must be crazy woman!! Can’t live without my coffee! But instead of stopping by your favorite coffee shop and spending double the money, why not just have a cup at home or better yet take a thermal cup with you to work. If you can’t curb the habit, lessen your trips to the coffee shops and you will notice a difference in your monthly budget.
  • Start walking or carpooling – If you are accustomed to taking a cab to work..consider walking, carpooling or using mass transit, like a bus or subway. You will be amazed at how much money you will save by just getting up a bit earlier to walk or take the subway. Not only will you save money but you might actually lose those nasty extra pounds that seem to creep up without you noticing, by simply walking. Imagine not having to go the gym because you are losing weight by walking. You’ll be saving money and looking good too.

I realize that there are many ways to save money but just wanted to share just a few that we may not consider. I will be sharing many more ways in the next post. Be sure to come back.
