Snazzy Side Tables

I’m all about re-using and re-purposing common items.  I think it’s fun to take something useless or old and make it functional; giving it new purpose.  So, I thought it might be fun to show you some easy ways to create side tables with items and materials you may have around your home that are not being used (or, at least, aren’t being used for a side table).

The great thing about side tables is that, they’re functional and they’re a great accessory.  Tables small enough to hold one coffee cup or book are perfect–they don’t take up a lot of space and they come in really handy!  Of course, larger side tables are always a bonus as well…they just don’t always fit nicely next to that little slipper chair or in that reading nook.  If they can hold a lamp, coasters, the tv remotes and store magazines, though, then you’re doing pretty good!

Here are some pictures of great side tables made of items that were originally intended for that purpose.  Because of this fact, they add a touch of whimsy and interest in the space and are somewhat “green” (since you’re using recycled materials)!

I have always, ALWAYS wanted a tree stump side table!  My husband even brought me home a tree stump to make into a side table, once, but it didn’t get dried properly and had to be thrown out. :(   These side tables are awesome and if you ever make one for yourself, then…well, you’re just awesome!

So cute!…and easy!  Who doesn’t have a few extra book laying around their house?!

Ever thought of hanging a shelf at table height on your bedside?  Perfect side table!

An old crate with casters…easy, cheap, and it rolls!

I love these stacked suitcases as a side table.  I don’t think I’d use my Louis Vuitton suitcases, but they look great in the space!

An old trash can…who would’ve thought?!  Make sure you clean it REALLY well first.

…and finally, a little ladder.  It’s not bulky at all and adds some height.  Very cute!

What do you think?  Is your brain already starting to spin with stuff that you have in your home to create a unique side table with? :)
