The Cross Roads of Life

Have you ever wondered where you would be if you had decided long ago to take a different road in your life?  Yes, those cross roads in our lives can be difficult and there are some of us who face these cross roads many times over.  Would you do anything differently today if given the opportunity?

I tend to think that we all travel down certain roads in our lives for a reason.  Perhaps we had some dreams or aspirations or perhaps they were choices that were made for us.  Whatever the reason, it is a learning experience none the less.  Now the true question should be are you content? If you hesitate in answering that question perhaps you should reassess your path.  For example, the dream I had since I was very little was to help others.  I thought I could write inspirational stories, poems or educate in some way to help others or simply make them happier.

Those dreams were quickly crushed when those around me at the time thought those dreams were silly.  I was told I needed to get a college education if I was going to help the people I wanted to help. So, I took that road and attended college as was expected of me.  I have helped many people but still felt a void.  My dreams were to write and apparently those were not unrealistic dreams.  Now later in life, I am pursuing that dream and have decided to take the road I should have taken long ago.  However, I wonder if things would have been different had I pursued my dreams initially.

Remember everything happens for a reason.  I do not regret the road I took long ago and am very thankful to have the opportunity to continue helping people but now with my words.  The written word has always had great meaning to me.  The written word is permanent and impactful.  My answer to the question above about being content is a resounding ‘Yes’.  I am truly content with my life, my family and the road I chose back then and the one I have chosen today.

We are all unique individuals with many, many layers.  With each layer that we shed, we learn something new about ourselves.  Perhaps our dreams of childhood were merely dreams or perhaps they were dreams that were placed in our lives by our heavenly father.  He has a dream for all of us and until we determine what that dream is, we won’t be fully content.  We can go on living our lives on a daily basis, following a routine that has been placed upon us or we can determine what it is that makes us truly happy.  This happiness does not revolve around material items, this is a happiness that is like no other.  One that motivates us to keep going.  One that makes us grateful and appreciative for what we have and those around us.  A happiness that is immeasurable, yes that immense!

So, what road have you taken? Have you come across the cross roads in your life?  Which path have you chosen and are you truly happy?  Until you can honestly answer those very deep questions, you will not understand the true meaning of content.  It is a liberating feeling and one that you don’t have to think about ~ you just simply are.

Consider those questions today.  They will definitely give your life more meaning if you have been questioning, if what you are doing is the right thing.  It is never too late to take a different path, or simply make changes along the way.  Determining the true meaning of your life is not easy but once you find the answers you will be eternally grateful, you will be happy and those around you will notice the difference as well and want to know what you did.  It’s truly contagious and a wonderful feeling.

Ask yourself this question…are you truly content?
